The Eccles Sixth Form college Volleyball team dominated at the National Cup quarter finals on Wednesday afternoon.
The Women's Volleyball Team travelled to Pontefract to play in the Quarter finals of the National Cup. With a mix of new players and more experienced ones, the team won the first set fairly convincingly but then stormed through sets 2 and 3. By the 3rd set, the team pulled together winning a mammoth 25-6 victory.
Serving from Nadia Cerempie and Niamh Mitchell and great pick-ups from the team’s 'new to the sport' Animal Management players, the team were able to gain a strong start. With Alisha Roebuck and 'MJ' hitting, the group caused the opposing team mayhem and a straight sets victory was always on the cards.
After successfully winning this game, the team will now progress to the Semi Finals in March. Sport Teacher, Richard Lee, said: “The Semi Finals in March will be against tough opposition from Newcastle, Stourbridge or a long drive down to a London based team.”
“This is the National Cup though and as it stands we are in the top 4 in the country, the pride in the team is high.”
The team are still recruiting players with training now on Fridays 3-4.30. Experience is not necessary but a drive to win is required.
